The West Virginia Botanic Garden is a wonderful expansive garden and natural space on the east side of Morgantown, just minutes from the scenic Cheat River. The garden offers wildlife viewing, beautiful natural scenery, and lots of trees- including American White Oak. When the garden decided to build a new gift shop and visitor center, they had to remove a pair of beautiful mature White Oak trees. They carefully harvested lumber from the trees, had it kiln-dried, and then asked us to create some functional, beautiful pieces for their gift shop that would pay homage to the trees and the garden.

The tables and checkout counter are used daily to display merchandise and check out customers, and they are used for sitting and reading.

The mature, forest-grown White Oak is full of character, showing off the ray fleck (unique pattern in the wood) that is found only in quartersawn oak. The customer decided to finish the tops with Waterlox Original Sealer Finish, a beautiful traditional tung oil-based varnish that accentuates the natural beauty and character of the wood while maintaining a natural look and offering excellent durability and repairability.
